Under 18s

CELUSA/SAIBT has responsibilities and regulations which apply to Under 18 students in Australia. If you are under the age of 18 you are not considered to be an independent adult under Australian law.

Responsibilities and Regulations Which Apply to Under 18 Students

For this reason CELUSA/SAIBT also has greater responsibilities to students Under 18 and therefore the following regulations would apply to you:

1. Under 18 students studying at CELUSA/SAIBT must have either of the following arrangements in place:

Your parents have nominated CELUSA/SAIBT to approve your accommodation and welfare arrangements. CELUSA/SAIBT and the appointed Homestay Host or Homeaway Management will be responsible for your general welfare, accommodation and support whilst you are Under 18 years of age.

OR

You are living in Adelaide with a parent or legal custodian.

OR

You are living in Adelaide with a relative over 21 years of age who has been nominated by your parents or legal custodian and approved by DIBP.

2.Soon after arrival at CELUSA/SAIBT, you will be invited to a meeting with a CELUSA/SAIBT Accommodation Officer which you must attend.

3. You will also be required to attend regular meetings with an Accommodation Officer until you turn 18 to discuss:

  • Academic progress
  • Accommodation
  • Attendance
  • Finance
  • Wellbeing
  • Any general concerns

Accommodation for Students Under 18 Years of Age

Students who are under 18 must reside in homestay unless they are living with a parent or guardian approved by the Australian government. They must also pay a Guardianship fee. For fee details, please refer to the SAIBT website: www.saibt.sa.edu.au.
